Passwords & Account Security

One of the easiest ways people gain access to your data is when you use weak passwords or when you use the same password for multiple accounts. Getting your login info stolen can create a major headache for you.

  • Use a password manager and strong passwords that are different for each account. This will actually make your life easier as well.
  • Install Proton Pass or Bitwarden on your devices and use it to create unique, strong passwords and store them for each login you have. Proton Pass will also tell you whether a password is secure enough or not.
  • Consider using multi-factor authentication (2FA) for sensitive accounts that offer it. You can find this in the privacy, security, or login settings of many services. Proton Pass can generate and store one-time codes for you.
  • If possible, use a 2FA method other than text or email. These provide some additional security, but using TOTP codes generated by an authenticator app is more secure.
  • For more security, use a separate app, like Ente Auth, for your 2FA codes. If you want this benefit, do not store the Ente Auth password inside your main password manager.

You don't need to switch all your passwords at once. Change each password to a new, unique, secure password the next time you sign in.
